Lodz Voivodeship is situated in the center of the country and its capital is the city Lodz, the second biggest city after Warsaw in Poland. This region is considered the biggest center of the textile industry in Poland. Besides Lodz, this Voivodeship has some other big cities: Piotrków Trybunalski, Sieradz, Skierniewice, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Bełchatów, Zduńska Wola, Radomsko, Wieruszów, Wieluń. The area of Voivodeship is relatively small, 18.000 sq. meters but really beautiful, full of landscape parks, lakes and national reserves.
The Economy of Voivodeship is developed and spread between industry and agriculture. Industry as we already mentioned is mostly focused on textile, however other areas should be mentioned, these are pharmaceutics, medical equipment, food processing.
The main products of agriculture activities are cereals and potatoes, Lodz Voivodeship export them later to other regions of the country.
The capital of the region, Lodz, was founded in the 19th century. Now it’s a dynamic city with a developed economy, culture and science. The population of Lodz is 700 thousand people which converts it into the 3d most densely populated city in Poland. Many tourists, at the moment they are deciding their itinerary before the trip to Poland, are advised to start it exactly from Lodz Voivodeship and it has different reasons. First reason is its location in the central part of the country and being connected very well with all other regions and even other countries. Second is because Lodz province has a lot of things to show to the visitors and to enjoy. In the city of Lodz you can participate in the annual Lodz fair. It's a very crowded, colorful and symbolic event. During this fair in the main street of the city different folkloric and rock concerts, competitions and shows. It’s definitely the best place to get closer to Polish culture and traditions. Also Lodz has a lot of interesting museums which have expositions dedicated to polish mode of life and country history, for example Museum of textile production.
The fans of cinema should know that Lodz is the center of cinematography in Poland. There are University of Theater and cinema and cinematographic museums in the city.
The most interesting place in the city is street Petrowska. This street is totally pedestrian so it's really pleasant to walk there. During the promenade by the street the visitors can not only visit a lot of cafes and restaurants but also see a lot of monuments. You don't need to walk a lot to find old buildings, monuments and all of them with their own original history. The most beautiful monument is considered the Petersen house, an amazing 19th century made in the best traditions of modern style. The important place in that street occupies a star's alley which commemorates a famous polish film director and cinema artist. During your walk by the city don't lose very interesting monuments such as: three Fabricants, the bank of Yulian Tuvim and the piano of Artur Rubinshtein.
If you like middle ages and just need to go to the city Oporuv. There you can find an ancient gothic castle of the 15th century. Inside the castle visitors can see an exposition of old interiors and outside the castle you can become a viewer of organized Knights tournaments.
For people who want to dive into the beautiful world of nature, Lodz Voivodeship offers to visit lake Sulovske, situated in the territory of landscape parks and surrounded by beautiful forest. Here you can practice windsurfing, paddle sports, cycling, riding horse, fishing and picking up mushrooms.
