Greater Poland Voivodeship is a historical region of central western part of Poland. Its main city is Poznan followed by other cities such as Kalisz, Konin, Pila and Gnezno. 

The voivodeship always was considered as a cradle of Poland and it was a heart of Polish state in X century. The same way as other Voivodeships Greater Poland has its own features and characteristics which give it its own personality and distinguish it among other regions. 

Greater Poland Voivodeship is one of the biggest and densely populated regions of the country, it's considered rich and with a strong economy. Industry plays an important role in the economy of the region and is located first of all in the big cities such as Poznan and its outskirts. The main branch of the industry is agricultural processing. In spite of the fact that Voivodeship doesn't have a lot of fertile lands, it is leading in this branch of economy due to highly developed agricultural technologies. The areas of car engineering, pharmaceutics and furniture are also developed. Brown coal mining, metallurgy and electricity production are also important for the region.

The capital of the region Poznan, its amazing city which surprised its visitors with perfectly conserved old architecture in it is downtown. The ensemble of old style colourful houses and monumental city hall make you feel as if you had been transported to the xvii century. The city has one big advantage: you can find all kinds of services as a capital but the prices are approximately 20% less than in Warsaw in all sectors of daily life. The main railway hubs and Intercity located in Greater Poland are Poznań, Piła and Ostrów Wielkopolski connecting the region with the EU and rest of Poland. In the near future the government expects to construct a high-speed rail line connecting Kalisz and Poznań from Łódź, Warsaw and Wrocław.

Poznań is the port of arrival for most international travellers as it plays host to Ławica International Airport. Most of the big cities offer excellent urban transportation with buses and trams. Currently Poznan is enhancing its urban transportation system causing temporary roadblocks. Lake Powidzkie, Rusalka and the Ostrów Lednicki at Lake Lednica. There are ruins of a chapel, church and palace, thought to be the home of the first Kings of the Piast dynasty. It is Poland's largest open-air museum. The site is one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments. 

The main square of Poznan is a very colourful place, with small charming buildings and authentic paving stones on the ground. The main square has many cafes, restaurants and bars which during weekends becomes really full of local people and visitors of the city. 

One of very typical and emblematic things for Poznan are bicycles. People use bicycles as a comfortable and economical daily means of transportation and also for practising sport and having a pleasant ride during fresh spring morning. Poznan has very good infrastructure for walking by bicycle, you have a lot of bike routes through the parks or nearby rivers. If you do not have your own bicycle you can easily rent a city bike using a comfortable application.
